Support Groups

Facing the prospect of being diagnosed and treated for a disease can be a daunting prospect. While family and friends are an important part of the healing process, they don’t always fully understand what you’re going through. Plus, they may be dealing with issues of their own.

Thankfully, Florida Hospital maintains an extensive list of local and national support groups, including some that are sponsored by Florida Hospital or neighboring community organizations.

Following are some of the support groups you can turn to in your hour of need for support, counsel, or some kind words.

Breaking the Chain Program to Help You Stop Smoking

This program is designed to help you:

• Understand the addictive power of nicotine
• Learn about various medication and non-medication treatments
• Learn and apply healthy lifestyle principles
• Practice planning and role-playing techniques for dealing with "smoking triggers"
• Receive group and individual support
• Learn relaxation and visualization techniques
• Celebrate the benefits of a smoke-free life

Spiritual & Grief Support

Florida Hospital is unique among Central Florida hospitals because of its emphasis on spirituality as a significant part of the healing process. A team of chaplains is available for the primary purpose of ministering to the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families. In addition to the 24-hour coverage provided by the pastoral care staff, the chaplains work closely with clergy of local churches and synagogues.
